DIY Summer Face Mask
Honey Turmeric Summer Glow Mask
We reached out to our resident clean beauty expert Nicolina Kolster, founder of Matka Essentials, and asked her to create the perfect mask to combat Vancouver Island winters.
Summer has arrived, cold pressed cocktails are in rotation, and you are ready for everything the hot weather has to offer. Except… maybe your skin still feels dry, dull, and blotchy from the long winter months and no amount of moisturizer will do. Luckily we have the ultimate solution.
TURMERIC IS LIKE A SUPERFOOD FOR YOUR SKIN
Fights off acne and breakouts
Reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks
Brightens up dark circles and age spots
Soothes dry and itchy skin
Protects against sun and free radical damage.
How is that for a superpower? By adding honey, aloe vera, and yogurt you are only up-ing the list of benefits. Honey is antimicrobial and anti-aging, while aloe vera soothes even the most agitated and sensitive skin types (and sun burns!) and yogurt helps balance the pH of the skin + is very moisturizing.
This is Nicco’s personal go-to mask after a long day in the scorching sun.
It’ll help reduce that crispyness and induce a golden, dewy complexion.
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp aloe vera gel
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp natural yogurt
Be sure the cloth or towel you use is dark in colour. There is a risk of staining it yellow thanks to the turmeric.
But don’t worry, your skin will not turn bright yellow from this mask!
Mix honey and aloe vera gel in a small cup.
Add the yogurt + turmeric.
Mix until you get a smooth, creamy consistency.
Wash your face like you normally would.
Apply your mask to clean skin with an applicator, or your fingers.
Leave on for 5-10 minutes.
Wash off with warm water or a (dark) face cloth.
Finish your summer glow facial with a nourishing moisturizer.
This mask is great for all skin types and can be repeated as frequently as desired.
